What a week it's been planning and putting things in place
for the book launch event on November 27th. Perhaps naïvely, I'd assumed the
evening was going to revolve around a few readings hand-picked from the
chapters, a run through of the novel's premise, flog a few copies and that
would be that. 'No, no,' my event organiser protested. 'You need to do much,
much more - you need visuals, props, give away a couple of free books in a
draw, maybe a book voucher?'
'Right,' me-thinks, and that was it, off in a flurry of activity to make this
an event my 'guests' will remember. So far: A slideshow containing all the
images of the book cover designs and a timeline detailing how it morphed from a
few sketched out ideas to the final cover we settled on - some of the rough
drafts, I've added to this blog. A playlist; any popular song with the word:
writing, writer, story, book, chapter or imagination in the title or chorus
(there are some very good ones) along with any song that is mentioned within
the novel, some of which are relevant to the narrative at the time they are
playing. And, finally; creating visual images for every character, significant
location or object within the book to print-off, cut up and hand out as draw
tickets - yes, a few free books and book vouchers will be given away on the
night. Right, so much more to do!
